Periodic, unattended execution of storage management commands is typically required for daily backups and synchronizations,
periodic storage analysis operations, automatic file organizing operations, etc. In general, desktop versions of the FlexTk
file management toolkit provide a command line tool allowing one to execute any user-defined storage management command
using a standard task scheduler, but periodic jobs available in FlexTk Server are much more powerful and flexible
for an enterprise storage environment.
FlexTk Server runs in the background as a Windows service and is capable of performing all types of storage management
operations in a fully automatic, unattended mode. The user is provided with the ability to setup multiple user-defined
storage management commands and execute them at specific time intervals using pre-defined periodic jobs. FlexTk Server
automatically schedules all tasks that should be executed, keeps track of all completed tasks and capable of sending
e-mail notifications about failed tasks. At any time, the user is provided with the ability to see the history of all
previously executed storage management operations, review results and error logs and restart failed operations if needed.
In order to setup one or more periodic jobs using the web-based interface, open you favorite web browser, login into
FlexTk Server and click on the 'Jobs' menu item. On the jobs page, click on the 'Add Job' link, enter the name of a user-defined
storage management command that should be executed and specify a time interval. Keep in mind that user-defined storage management
commands and periodic jobs are defined per user, so the selected command and the periodic job should be defined in the same user account.
A periodic job may be scheduled to run after a specified number of minutes, hours, days or weeks. Additional GUI options are displayed
or hidden automatically depending on the selected mode. For daily jobs, the user is provided with the ability to specify the exact time
of the day when the job should be executed. For example, a periodic job may be scheduled to run each 3 days at 3:30 AM. For weekly jobs,
the user is provided with the ability to specify the day of the week and the time of the day when the job should be executed. For example,
a weekly periodic job may be executed each 2 weeks, on Friday, at 20:40 PM.
In order to setup one or more periodic jobs using the server management GUI application, start the GUI application, connect to FlexTk
Server and press the 'Jobs' button located on the main application toolbar. On the 'Jobs' dialog, press the 'Add' button, select the
storage management command that should be executed and specify a time interval. Keep in mind that user-defined storage management
commands and periodic jobs are defined per user, so the selected command and the periodic job should be defined in the same user account.
